May-ling Martinez and Griselda Rosas are intrigued by everyday objects, their materiality and the process of deterioration. By playfully re-contextualizing historical and vintage imagery, this exhibition re-shapes incongruous, random and at times humorous cultural and social rituals. May-ling’s work is based on an innate need to better understand her surroundings and the dynamics of the human experience. Believing that apart from the idea of objects and images, what we as a society create and consume mirrors our beliefs and desires. Griselda has a strong relationship to poetry, mind wondering and the ecosystem’s fragility. From installations to multiple stitch-paintings, her work addresses issues of national identity, ethnicity, and gender practices.
