JUNO nominees and Billboard charting Sultans of String are thrilling audiences with their genre-hopping passport of Celtic reels, Flamenco, Gypsy-jazz, and Arabic and Cuban rhythms. Blend their fiery violin dances with kinetic guitar and funky bass lines, and you have a night of unstoppable grooves.
Chris McKhool, a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal recipient, has an Egyptian-born mother who played piano, taught classical theory, and fed her son as much music as she did Middle Eastern cuisine. From there, the powerful violinist developed a taste for multi-genre string sounds and found a like-minded crew of allworld enthusiasts. With founding guitarist Kevin Laliberté’s rumba rhythm, their musical synergy created Sultans of String’s signature sound – the intimate and playful relationship between violin and guitar. From this rich foundation, the dynamic duo grew, featuring such amazing musical friends as bass master Drew Birston.
